I have arrived - The first day in Bali
I landed safely without complications and set off on my Bali adventure on Friday evening! Oh, how I love that! I was looking forward to that landing very much, to leaving the airport and breathe the fresh air and smell the odor of Bali. So I went out and when I breathed in the first Balinese air, it completely overwhelmed me and I cried with happiness. I was so happy to be here again, back to Bali!Bali is a special place for me where my journey started in 2013, and that's why I have such a bond and love for it!
Having arrived at the hotel, I took a shower and went for the first massage and then to a restaurant for my favourite Bali food - Nasi-goreng. Do you know this dish? Have you ever had it? If not, you should try it!
Currently I am in Canggu - I am staying at the Surf Motel. It's a short walk from the beach and it's such a cool hotel for surfing and meeting yoga people. Close to the hotel there are many restaurants, coffee shops with healthy food and yammi coffee and yoga studios within walking distance of the hotel. The hotel is clean and quiet.
Although I went to bed late I got up at 6:30. I put my yoga clothes on and went to a yoga class at Samadhi Studio here in Canggu. I wrote a review about Samadhi Studio in 2017, which you can read here. The studio still looks the same and has such a positive vibe and they have a yummy coffee bar. In the morning I tried Vinyasa Yoga. The class was powerful, it gave me a lot of energy and stretched my whole body and I overcame my jet lag. The only thing I would like to do is to make the Shavaasana a bit longer. :-D I didn't want to wake up at all…. After yoga I had a fresh coconut, met new people and went for breakfast.
This time I visited the Copenhagen Café. They have excellent breakfast and coffee. I had already heard about this café, so it was on my list of places I wanted to go, and I was really pleased. I would definitely recommend going there! You can choose breakfast from many different styles of dishes.
After breakfast I went to the hotel, then I went to the pool for an hour, where I analyzed my song for Inside Flow and I worked on my own flow, which I later introduced on the Inside Flow Bali summit! (But I will write on my blog about this later.)
I arranged a private surfing lesson that lasted 2 hours at 1:30. If you go to Bali or where ever are good waves for surfing, you have to try it. My first surfing lesson was this summer in California at Hunting Beach and I was blown away! I became addicted to surfing. :-D
If you are a beginner, definitely try a private lesson. I paid 350 IDR for 2 hours, that means around €20, which seems like a good price to me. I can definitely recommend my surf instructor with whom I was very satisfied. You can find him on Instagram @jaya_surf . Tell him you have got his contact details from me. He will be happy for sure. :)
The surfing was great: the salty water - the ocean and the beach are giving me so much energy and I feel completely free, without too much thinking and I am in the Here and Now. Surfing is teaches me how to go beyond the fear. Sometime ago I was afraid of big waves and I wanted to become free from this fear and this is why I went beyond my limits and fears by surfing big waves. I believe if you get beyond the limit of your fear you break it. And so did I.
After surfing I returned to the hotel where I took a shower, changed clothes and went to an art exhibition. My friend from Toronto, Deniz Reno, is an artist and she invited me to her art exhibition. If you want to know about her, check her blog. I was very happy to see her again and also completely blown away by her arts. I met Deniz around 2017 in Bali and we haven't seen each other since then, but we kept in touch and it finally worked out for us to see each other again!
After the exhibition I went to the “famous” Clear Café. It´s one of my favourite restaurants. The food here is healthy and tastes perfect! There is a slide in the restaurant on which you can go down and reach the exit. It´s a restaurant with an amazing design, and it will definitely stay in your memory. It's another place you don't want to miss if you come to Bali for sure. I met influencers in the restaurant, they were very friendly. They showed me a couple of tricks on how to take photos and make videos on the iPhone that I didn't even know about!!
After dinner I had a spicy hot chocolate and headed back to the hotel, where I decided to create this blog :) and share my experiences. I also received a lot of messages from people and they asked me if I could send them some photos of Bali. So I have decided to share this trip to Bali with you on Instagram and here on my website. Hope you enjoyed:) If you are interested in Yoga and healthy life style and travel, don´t miss my Instastories where I share my lifestyle!!
Have a great day, wish you much love Martina
