Autumn Mood
Hello autumn! Hello friends! Hello family! How has your autumn mood been lately?
Autumn is the season of reflection. In Chinese Medicine autumn is associated with the Element of Metal. This is the time of year when the leaves fall to earth and are recycled into rich humus. The two systems in the body that are most strongly activated at this time are the lungs and the large intestine. Both organs have the function of gathering in what is essential and letting go of what is not needed.
This period of autumn is not the perfect time to start dieting or running fifteen kilometers per day, but it is a good time to settle down and prepare for the winter season. Now is the ideal time to calm our minds and hearts and to gather and collect the spirit and the Qi (energy). It is the perfect time to practice Yin Yoga. It is similar to the trees drawing in and letting go of their leaves, it is time for us to let go of what we have been carrying around all year which is no longer of any use to us.
What foods should we be eating in autumn/winter?
Eat more warming foods.
Root vegetables: carrots, squash, pumpkin and sweet potato. (you can find plenty of yummy recipe on my membership)
Whole grains: brown rice, quinoa, oats and millet.
Legumes: beans, chickpeas, lentils, soybeans.
Green vegetables: broccoli, spinach, kale, celery, rocket and artichokes.
Remember; eating what is in season is always a very good way to stay in tune with the energy of the time.
My recommendation:
Just five minutes spent focusing on breathing each day.
Breathing is a very powerful way to let go of our tension, whether it is physical, emotional, mental or spiritual. It is one of the primary cycles of yin and yang in the body. Having inhaled air we must let go of it before we can take any more in.Early to bed, early to rise.
The clocks go back and outdoors it gets dark earlier.. Save your energy and don’t stay up late. Instead, wake up earlier and do morning meditation.Treat yourself well.
Why not attend a yin yoga class or go for an Ayurvedic massage? You can attend my Yoga Studio in Adenau or sing up to my Online Classes.Drink more tea
Make yourself organic tea! My favourite is fresh ginger with cinnamon and a drop of honey, afterwards I can feel my heart melting and I feel warm and happy.Wear warm clothes.
Don’t forget to protect yourself from the cold and especially the wind. The summer activities are over. Now, rather than expending our energy it is time to start saving it. Cover yourself with a natural warm sweater.Go for a walk without a thoughtful mind.
Enjoy the outdoors, open your eyes and look around, look at the beautiful autumn colour combinations and feel grateful for seeing them. It is what makes autumn so extraordinary and unique is the way it looks.
“I can smell autumn dancing in the breeze. The sweet chill of pumpkin and crisp sunburnt leaves”. - Unknown
PS: Autumn shows us how beautiful it is to let go of things.
Have a happy and beautiful autumn! Made with love by Martina
